2017 Overall Winner

Priestfield's banqueting centre's roof shook as the winner of the 2017 Medway Business Awards received the top prize including a cheque for £1000. Cooling Castle Barn, a unique and popular historical venue, celebrated the award along with 48 of its staff members. In a highly competitive market, the company strives to be innovative and is constantly looking for ways to improve. The firm uses local suppliers, eateries and bed and breakfast businesses. It has also provided a defibrillator and runs training sessions for local residents, made donations to fundraising events and given more than £10,000 to Kent Air Ambulance as well as a local hockey team.

Excellence in Client Service Award


The Excellence in Client Service Award was scooped by Fingerprint Financial Planning. For the past 10 years, the firm based at The Historic Dockyard, has been offering a guiding hand to clients through good and difficult times. Led by principal partners Ben Beslic and Paul Spencer-Nixon, the practice helps clients buy their first home, invest for school fees and plan for retirement, inheritance tax, care home fees and business succession.

Diversify and Grow Award

Diversify and Grow Award

Logistics firm Beeline Sameday Limited was given the Diversify and Grow Award. This express courier has been delivering goods around the clock since 1980 when it started off with one van. Now employing 40 staff working from an 120,000sqft facility at Seymour Road, Rainham, the firm carries anything from a single envelope, to frozen food and large consignments of pallets to anywhere in the UK and mainland Europe. The premises also include office and warehouse accommodation leased to other companies.

Innovation Award

Innovation Award

The Innovation Award went to Frameless Glass Curtains (FGC) based at Revenge Road, Lordswood where, sales have rocketed to such an extent co-founder Gary Beresford is looking for larger premises and taking on more staff. FGC's patented frameless, sealed units can be single, double or triple glazed. They slide, stack or fold at one or both ends on a mono track. The products are technically very different from those supplied by many other double glazing companies. The bi-folding doors are designed to fit together without the obstructions of a frame allowing additional light to brighten up a room or office.

ECITB's Training & Development Award

ECITB's Training and Development Award

The ECITB's Training and Development Award went to family-run Anchor Support Services. For the past 28 years, the company has been helping adults with learning difficulties develop their independence skills to live a fulfilling life. Older people are also helped stay in their own homes by enabling them to get up in the morning, have meals prepared and attend appointments. Service users are always involved and told what is happening at each stage of their development and care. The company prides itself on an ethos of closeness and family values that respects people's rights and choices. There are plans to develop its specialist day care services for people with dementia.

The Medway Healthy Workplace Award

Medway Healthy Workplace Award

This year the awards shared the stage with The Medway Healthy Workplace Award organised by A Better Medway, the council's public health team. Winners were: Medway Community Care (MCH), Southern Water, Ashdown Medway Accommodation Trust, Holiday Inn, Medway Active Recovery Service, The Howard Academy Trust and Lustre Consulting.

A magnificent amount of £961 was raised in a raffle held for the Mayor's charity comprising Medway Macmillan, The Samaritans and Magic which helps children and young people with autism.
